Communicating with us about a Technical Issue

If you are having a technical issue with your door, our main objective is to help you get the problem solved as quickly as possible. We apologize that we do not have a trained technician on standby to assist you over the phone. We have found that the majority of technical problems can be solved with a few minor adjustments and may require you to send photos directly to our support team to review. Please send us a message below or email us at technicalsupport@hideawaydoors.com with your questions; be sure to include the order number. When sending photos, please take direct photos with the door in full view.

Important Tip:

Please communicate with us using your order number, which was assigned to your order and sent to your email as an order confirmation. The typical order number ends in .2070.

Common Problems & Solutions

1. Door is not adjusted properly

2. Self latching mechanism not installed or adjusted properly

3. Overloading the door

4. Black Nylon bushing came off the bottom hinge when moving or installing the door

5. Hump in your floor

(See Solution)

Cause: locking bars have to line up perfectly with the slots on top & bottom. The alignment may move slightly during shipment or while the door is being installed.

Solution: Bend the locking bar slightly back into alignment with your thumb or with light taps using a hammer.

**Cause:** This issue often occurs with out-swing doors and is usually due to the wall or opening being out of plumb. Even a slight misalignment can affect how the door closes. To check, use a 4' level next to the door. If the bubble touches one of the lines, the wall is out of plumb enough to impact the door.

**Solution:** Adjust the bottom hinge side away from the wall by half the amount the top is out of plumb, then recheck.

**Extreme Cases:** If the wall is significantly out of plumb or the sides of the opening are misaligned in different directions, the bottom wall plate may need to be readjusted.

In late 2022 all outswing bookcase doors were installed with a top seal that needs to be adjusted after your door is installed. Open the door about midway, just behind the top case molding you'll see a minimum of 3 black adjusters. Start at the one closest to the bookcase hinge side lowering it down about half way. Repeat on the remaining adjusters. Start from the beginning and lower the rest of the way until the seal lightly touches the top of the door.

Please see our How To videos found on our resources page. Most issues can be resolved by watching our videos and cross referencing them with the manufacturer's instructions found in the boxes the lock openers were shipped in (powered locking systems).

(Out-swing Doors only) Typically, this is a problem that happens with Shaker Style Cabinet Doors. Cabinet door hinges have 3 different types of adjustments (see manual). Shaker Style cabinet doors are typically shipped with thin black plastic spacers that are to be mounted between the faceframe and the cabinet door hinge on the cabinet door closest to the side of the bookcase hinge. That will space the cabinet door just enough for the case molding to miss when operating.

Symptom: top of the door closes before the bottom - Solution: 1. Mechanical latch is adjusted with too much tension, loosen tention. 2. Close the door in the area of the fixed shelf by pinching the face frame and the case molding with your hand to close the door.
